Where is Easter Island?

Easter Island is a isolated speck of land in the vast Pacific Ocean.

It is over 2000 miles away from mainland Chile, and over 1000 miles away from its closest island neighbors! It is subtropical (latitude 27º S) with a mild climate. Its volcanic origins make for very fertile soil and the surrounding sea teams with life. This combination of blessings could have made Easter Island a miniature paradise. As we shall see, it was a paradise lost.
